GLAD Kids is a nationally Accredited Professional Preschool Learning Environment (APPLE), that has been awarded the Gold Seal of Excellence by the State of Florida, and has been in business for more than 40 years. We are committed to providing educational and developmental care for low-income working families and we strive to provide for the social, emotional, economic, and developmental needs of those children and their families. The Harlem Heights neighborhood, where we are located, is home to 1,200 children under the age of 18. Thirty-six percent of Harlem Heights’ families live below the federal poverty level which enables them to be eligible for subsidized child care if government funding is available. We are able to provide child care for families who receive government subsidies because we are determined to raise financial assistance required to meet the funding gap between what is reimbursed and what it actually costs to care for a child. When funds are available through donations, we offer other limited scholarship programs for families. It is our goal to ensure that all children go on to public school understanding and communicating in English.
We provide a hands-on education that enables children to learn in a safe, secure, loving environment where they are free to explore. A love for learning is instilled at an early age which encourages the child to be successful in all school settings. Communication between GLAD Kids, parents, and the public school system is in place to allow sharing of information to help each child become successful. When we send children to public school ready to learn, we also encourage families to participate in English classes so they can assist their child with homework, and feel more confident when communicating in English. The importance of education is stressed and families are encouraged to stay involved with their child’s education to break the cycle of poverty through pursuing higher education.
Our programs allow children to Grow, Learn andThrive. Our programs provide a secure and enriching environment that serves the children of low-income working families. Two nourishing meals and snacks are provided for the children so they may Grow. Developing minds cannot concentrate on academics if they are hungry. The educational program is based on the Creative Curriculum model designed to specifically meet the social, emotional, physical and developmental needs of the children cared for, allowing them to Learn. Together with the education, care, love and emotional needs being met through our family environment, our children are empowered to Thrive and build a better future. Put simply, our goal is to be a unique part of their growth process. Qualified teachers who hold a Child Development Associate Degree work in each classroom to ensure children are developing the necessary skills they need to thrive, to ensure ratios allow for small group interaction, and to observe the children in their environment and interactions between children. Teachers record what is observed and use these observations in developing plans for each child.
We are committed to making a difference to help break the cycle of poverty through education, leadership and support.
